The Development and Research Centre for Maternity and
Child Health Care
The Development and Research Centre for Maternity and Child
Health Care was established in spring 2002 financed by the Ministry
of Social Affairs and Health. The centre is situated in The
National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and
Health.
The National Public Health Institute (KTL) and the National
Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health (STAKES)
join forces to form the National Institute for Health and
Welfare.

Aims
The aims are
1) to enhance the know-how of professionals working in the
maternity and child health care,
2) to develop and evaluate new family-centered and
multi-professional ways of working and
3) to gather, summarize and further disseminate information about
client families and maternity and child health care. The activities
of the centre are based on the above-mentioned aims.
Target groups and collaborators
The target groups are professionals and managers working in
maternity and child health care clinics, teachers, students and
researchers in health care and other related disciplines, and
client families.
The primary collaborators are educational and health care
organizations, client families, the Ministry of Social Affairs and
Health,the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities,
KTL - National Public Health Institute and the third sector. The
Centre` s personnel consist of the Research Director and the Senior
PlanningOfficer.

The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL)

STAKES and the National Public Health Institute (KTL).
